What are MFN or Worldcom sales people telling customers who ask what
happened to their network diversity?

When they were told they had all five nines covering that network they should have asked where the decimal point was. -g-

Looking at that map it makes sense, it's where I'd have run it. There is a lot of cable in those conduits already. The guys I saw on 29th and Calvert Street (about ten blocks north of where that map cuts off) were probably hopping the turn west back down 29th to the train tracks. It's my route home because it pops me onto the on ramp of 83 North. The Expressway (83) and the train tracks follow the canyon created by the Jones Falls (a river). The Jones Falls sort of bisects the West and East side of the City in the north. I guess they were making that left back down to the original cable.

I've done a running race from right about the beginning of the re-route up to 31st street and back to the Inner Harbor. It was a 10k so the distance they ran that cable was 3/4 the distance of that accounting for the jogs left and right (4.5 miles). But here's the rub, I doubt they had to pull cable the whole distance because the CO that I'm next to is just two blocks north of where I saw those network guys and all the cable to downtown from it runs under Guilford Avenue (My studio is between Guilford and Calvert). I bet they only had to patch into a redundant cable until they made that turn on 29th back down to the tracks.

Looks like Muffin was the hero that pieced it all together:

The video that CNBC showed of them pulling the cars out of the tunnel showed the equipment in the parking lot of that train station building that is part of my school, the one I showed you a picture of the other night.

Look at the south end of the re-route map. You'll see PSI Net Stadium off to the left.....a monument to "crash and burn". Kind of ironic.
