Jim, a half point drop could go either way. It might inspire some buying or create a panic run to the exit.

My opinion is that the we're going to see a 1/4 cut as the Fed waits to measure the impact of the tax refunds. We'll get a first glimpse when the August retail numbers are reported.

You're probably right Sergio...

But, hope springs eternally... We need a 1/2 point cut to shock the markets... With over 2 trillion dollars on the sidelines, something dramatic is needed to move some of that back into equities... Otherwise the market will continue its April lows itinerary... The FED knows this... They know that the wealth effect is becoming a wealth memory... If we can prevent a retest of the April lows, we can short circuit the inevitable weakening of the housing market that usually follows Bear bottoms... The injection of some of that sidelined cash into equities along with the bulk of the tax rebate checks hitting now could help put in a rising bottom and send the bear on its way... But, then again, I used to believe in Santa... : >
