>>"I actually felt in more danger with the helmet when measured in term of likelihood of having an accident as opposed to likelihood of being hurt if having one."<<
The helmet is intended to prevent "deadly" injury to the head when and if an accident does happen. Like they all said, it only takes ONE accident, which may be totally out of your control, to do serious damage to your head without a helmet. As to more aggressive driving due to the false sense of security from wearing a helmet, it is a matter of perception and attitude which can be changed; however, there is still one more element that we should not overlook- that you have no control over drunk drivers, drivers whose attention are on their cell phone, drivers who simply aren't paying attention, etc...
In the same token, tight stop trading, if practice moderately and with discipline, can help you avoid that one major loss that can wipe you out if you don't have a stop and your emotion is running rampant. Thus, like a helmet, tight stop is there to help you avoid that one major moment when your emotion is most vulnerable.
In summary, the issue of aggressive driving or over-trading is really a matter of discipline which can be trained; therefore, it is still within our own control. But when it comes to the behavior of other reckless drivers or market unpredictability which are totally out of our control, helmet and tight stop are our only protection.
So, as you can see, I'm a supporter for helmet and tight stop. <g> |
