I find Level II very valuable in day trading, but I never use it alone. Always watch it along with real time charts that show the broader index movement (Nasdaq futures for example) and a real time candlestick chart of the stock
I am watching. I find this combination of Level II, real time stock chart and real time index chart, reduces the risk and considerably increases my returns.
It is helpful to know the players on a Level II screen.. The marketmakers all have their own symbols, such as GSCO for Goldman Sachs. But they also trade incognito using Instanet (INCA).
You can get a lot more information on this from nasdaqtrader.com
