Richardred,

I gather you picked up my interest in SIAL from the Trickle thread. Another couple of interesting plays in this sector that might be considered defensive are ARE, a REIT that specializes in lab space, and NBSC, a small cap with silly management but a solid product line of freezers, shakers, centrifuges, etc. that one could expect to be used with SIAL's stuff. It seems to be turning around a bit, and there is possible upside from its stake in genomics outfit DGI. I follow NBSC it is probably a reasonable buy under $5. ARE was just brought to my attention.

The mass spec stocks should also be hot for a while longer. I'd recommend BDAL in the middle teens or better (at 20, it currently has a bit more bioterrorism premium than it deserves, IMO), and WAT on dips below 30.

Cheers, Tuck
