With all thats going on now. I was thinking Defense stocks are getting the most sector attention to a proper diversified portfolio to balance risk management. In times of recessions or uncertainty, Defensive stock plays can help stabilize a portfolio. In this current market environment, defense stocks themselves are attracting a lot of attention. I though I would start this thread for discussions about 3 diversified topics. Investing in current market conditions, managing risk in a stock portfolio & politics. With that said, I have a few favorite Phrases that tell a little bit about my investment philosophy and politics.

"LISTEN TO WHAT EVERYBODY HAS TO SAY, BUT DO WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT YOURSELF"

"You worked hard and took time to make money. Take the time to make wise investment choices."

As I remember, recessions are part of the economic cycles. IMO-Part has to do with our political system. They will come and go. Each administration, along with the changing scenes in our set of checks and balances,(Congress & Senate) doesn't have a consistant policy. For the most part, they respond to the way the groups they represent (voters) want. (More gov't spending-for stimulus-more taxes to compensate),(tax cuts, less gov't spending)for stimulus. When you have our political systems. Eventually something passes where somebody recieved something, but a party didn't get everything they wanted. This political scene, peoples, and businesses spending patterns, to ever changing marketplace conditions, an unknown events, cause economic cycles. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes for the worst.

I think this country went through one of the longest, in my recent memory, period of prosperity. IMO-Clinton just happened to ride in on the coattails of an economy that was starting to recover. We were told politically, we were in the worst economy this county had seen since the last World War or 30 years? The Gulf War was was over. Taxes were raised during the Gulf War by George Bush Senior, against his (no new taxes pledge) to fund the war, and opportunist polititans. The S & L crisis was delt with by our Gov't and George Senior. Interests rates dropped and the economy roared back. A boom in refinancing homes, purchasing of new cars, stock speculation, and this thing called the internet. Let me know when all economists agree to what caused the boom. I don't think you will ever find total agreement, but a consensus on some things.

This County survived Wars-economic downturns-and catastrophic events (nature and caused). I believe it will continue to do so. Our great minds here now, our sons and daughters, and their sons and daughters. Will continue to keep our nation going now, and forward.

IMO-This country is the greatest, because we can agree and disagree on anything. Our multi-party political system created by our forefathers, and our free Enterprise Capitalistic system. Nothing can be perfect. Our system had mistakes, and probably still has some.(Women vote-black vote). Therefore it is subject to change, and changed. We will always be shaped to the way our people think, should they care enough to vote.

I always try and see the good side of things because. We know from the past, we as a country will get through this. 'My Year book Quote - In 1978- 'Remembing the past, looking forward to the Future'-I truely believe in this county and our way of life!

Lets begin!
