Like is it likely we'll get on one morning and find a canned message and no access?

That scenario, or that scenario with no canned message is the outcome on which I'd bet.

Naveen does not want other companies to benefit from his shutting down SI when/if it happens. He's ruthless (and an arrogant asshole, according to him) and wants only fear, even from his employees. Doing anything that would benefit someone he didn't successfully crush is exactly the opposite of what I'd expect from him.

Giving any amount of advance warning would benefit another discussion site because people here would put their heads together, decide amongst themselves, and move en masse to another venue.

Better for him that the hammer just suddenly falls with no warning and the community is scattered to the winds.

It'll be kinda like the trumpet that heralds the apocalypse, but in this case it'll be a sitar playing a variation of the theme from "Beverly Hillbillies". "Y'all don't come back now. Ya hear?"
