Can't remember if it was you who is taking classes about computers.
One of my classes had a get-together at a bar on Capitol Hill Wednesday night, and I was yacking to one of the professors about how I have decided to set up a website for my research into the Great Depression, as a way of keeping things organized, and as a way of maybe getting feedback.
Turns out that Mason is in the forefront of integrating history and new media. They have a history and new media department, and offer classes. He was pretty surprised that I had no idea. But I just go to Mason because it's just a couple of miles from my house, and is pretty decent, and not very expensive.
So today I went around checking on what was available. Nobody was at the center for history and new media, but it looks pretty much like a computer lab.
I also went to the student center because I had heard they had equipment there and workshops. There are several computer labs, including one with several terminals for publishing on the Internet, with DreamWeaver, PowerPoint, Flash, and stuff like that. Also, they teach free workshops for GMU students.
It's pretty cool.
I get 6 mb for my website for free just because I'm a student. I have no idea whether that's a lot or what. Anyway, I signed up to take "Creating History in New Media" next semester.
I also signed up for free three hour intro workshops for DreamWeaver, PageMaker, Illustrator, Director, Flash and Premier, and Intermediate PhotoShop. |
