The Soc Sec bill you reference is not unlike that proposed by Barry Goldwater in the 1964 election. It was castigated as a raid on all that is wonderful about protecting the wealfare of all the people (read:confiscatory wealth redistribution). The Goldwater proposal, was calling for a significant amount of private funds being mandated for reinvestment in yes, private securities, but moreso in Government vehicles...bonds, etc. Even with this caveat, the collectivist (Democrats) could not swallow the fact that individuals might actually control the fruits of their own labors. Central control of money and expenditures is the cornerstone of political control of the public. Returning it to individuals precludes a politician from being able to say, "here's what I can do for you."
The proposal is sound....it will never happen. Oh yes it might get through the House & Senate, but it will die in the hands of Bubba. Remember, Bill is really no leader, but Hillary is indeed a real Marxist. This White House staff is like no other (Democratic) staff in that they are true believers in collectiveist dogma (eg, Harold Ickes, Ira Magaziner). None of them have ever worked for a living and government employment (non-wealth creating activity) is all they know. I'm on a rant....I'd better go now. Grasshopper.
