Relative to terms of left and right, I agree they apply differently depending on the situation.

As a note, this thread got created after watching Bernard Goldberg, former CBS journalist, do a back and forth with Bernard Kalb on CNN. So, in that context, it's America's right that mostly complains American journalists have a leftward tilt. I then surmised that most intellectuals of Western thinking tend to side politically more to the left than to the right; and it therefore follows that journalists who, themselves are intellectual in nature, would within their own viewpoints tilt to the left. So I don't find a liberal media bias claim all that surprising. It makes sense.

So what can be done about it? Do we reengineer intellectual thinking over the coming generations; do we enact affirmative action programs for rightward thinking intellectuals and journalists? Me thinks rather than bellyache about it, and whine and complain as Goldberg is doing in the course of selling his book, why not simpy conclude there's a valid reasons why intellectuals and journalists come to hold the personal views they do. If so many Americans were not herdlike in nature, perhaps they'd glean some of what those intellectuals and journalists come to understand.

Regarding the free market forces and the creation of wealth, I'll simply link a post I just presented on SI's Foreign Affairs thread. It'll make for good Sunday reading--lol!
