re: technology Market Share Fact v. Fiction

John,

<< Just Curious. How in brief would you explain the following: 1) The penetration of approx 18% of global subscribers in scarcely 6-7 years time against an entrenched technology ... >>

18% of global subscribers?

How would I explain it?

I would explain it as a huge misstatement, misconception, or misrepresentation of fact on your behalf ...

... and if you start with incorrect facts, you are likely to reach spurious conclusions.

You have unfortunately just stated a woefully incorrect fact, which in turn can be extremely detrimental to an investors financial health and welfare.

In turn it also makes it difficult to answer some of the questions you ask in a meaningful fashion.

With all due respect ...

... in order for you and I to have any type of sensible dialogue on this thread or elsewhere you need to establish a better command of facts.

I sincerely do not know how to state that more politely.

Perhaps you could take a few minutes and review comparative market share by technology:

Message 17392258

Through Q4 2001:

* CDMA accounts for approximately 11.7% (NOT 18%) of all wireless subs and GSM accounts for 67%.

* CDMA accounts for approximately 12.2% (NOT 18%) of all digital wireless subs and GSM accounts for 71.1%.

Moreover, for an all to brief period between late 1996 and 1999, cdmaOne enjoyed the distinction of being the "Fastest Growing Wireless Technology" quarter to quarter & YOY.

cdmaOne growth abruptly hit the wall on a quarter to quarter basis in Q1 2000 and on a YOY basis in Q2 2001.

cdma market share of digital wireless subs decreased in 2000 and decreased again in 2001.

Conversely, and despite the "law of big numbers", GSM market share of digital wireless subs increased significantly in 2000, and increased significantly again in 2001, at the expense of cdma.

Here's a look at the last 18 months:

18 Month Relative Market Share of CDMA & GSM

CDMA Market Share GSM Market Share

% of all % of digital % of all % of digital

Q4 2001 End 11.7% 12.2% 67.0% 71.1%
Q2 2001 End 11.5% 12.3% 65.7% 70.6%
Q4 2000 End 11.5% 12.7% 64.4% 71.4%
Q2 2000 End 11.9% 13.9% 56.6% 66.1%

In eighteen short months CDMA market share has declined marginally (.2% of all subs) but GSM market share has increased significantly by 18.4% (10.4% of all subs).

Over the last 12 months TDMA was again (2nd consecutive year) the "Fastest Growing Technology", and over the last 6 months GSM is the "Fastest Growing Technology"

I'll attempt to respond to your other questions after I do some catch up from a weeks travel.

Best,

- Eric -
