Dave, a lot of the abuses you speak about could be reduced or eliminated IF we had immediate access to short trading information. I have been having a discussion of the Valence thread on this which you might like to scan and add your opinion.

It started when I posted this.

Which brings up one of my pet beefs. Why is short interest only compiled monthly and then only published almost 2 weeks later when it is almost useless?

In 2002 there are devices called computers which could provide this information real time to all investors without any additional cost to the SEC, NASDAQ or the brokers IF THEY WERE REALLLY INTERESTED in providing a level playing field. They could even mark all short sales on level 2 and time and sales data real time as they were executed if they wanted. Now that would make the shorts transparent; the longs are always exposed, so why not the shorts?

Vet, I agree with you, in this era of "better corporate disclosure", only the exchanges are keeping us like mushrooms (feeding us "S$%^t" and keeping us in the dark), there is absolutely no reason that each tic should not be marked as short or long. How do we get congress and the SEC to move on that? I have been "complaining" about that issue for more than two years now (g).
