It is one thing to take over somewhere, but then we have to maintain it....this was probably the Soviet Union's downfall, they could not sustain the control and the further the lands, the harder it was to do so.

Isn't this the question that we have presently in Bosnia, Afghanistan, and hopefully not in Iraq?

The same case could be made for Isra-El as well....that place is high maintenance!

If we had kept Kuwait, do you suppose we could have maintained it?
