NEWS RELEASE..... WAVC..BB NASDAQ commenced trading June 2, 1997 and background information.

Vancouver, British Columbia, CHANNEL i INC. (Nasdaq BB: CHLI) President Robert Clarke is pleased to announce today that the Company has changed its corporate name and has a new trading symbol.

The new name is WaveRider Communications Inc. The Company also has a new trading symbol - Nasdaq BB: WAVC - which goes into effect on the opening of trading Monday, June 2, 1997.

The Company is now proceeding with the change of its name to WaveRider Communications Inc. It is anticipated this name change will be completed no later than May 24, 1997.

Mr. Clarke said "The change of name better reflects the new business of WaveRider following its acquisition of Major Wireless Communications Inc."

Major Wireless is a Canadian company developing "Last Mile Solution" communication technology that utilizes wireless spread-spectrum modems as a cost effective, reliable alternative to conventional local loops and dedicated lines provided by telephone companies. Spread-spectrum is a disaster-resistant communications link, originally established for military purposes, whereas wire and fiber optic cable are susceptible to disruption. The WaveRider technology is resistant to jamming and interference, detection and interception resulting in secure fail-safe transmission of data.
