My understanding is that Metricom of Los Gatos CA who offers "Ricochet" is a direct competitor, however, the two technologies are different. Ricochet has stated that the cost to depoloy the initial service in an average metropolitan area will be $4.9 to 7.2 million. The WaveRider solution is priced at a fraction of this cost. The question I have for the Ricochet solution is whether their solutions will survive the lower entry costs of WaveRider's technology. Another interesting aspect is the very high security factors of WaveRider's solution. I am not sure to what level of encryption Ricochet has, but WaveRider has 32 to the third if I am not mistaken.
