My only reservations with an Iraq invasion are the lack of international support and that it may ignite an unholy conflagration.

We might be able to do it alone. That depends on how active other nations oppose it. We're the EU to announce a blockade of the Mediterranean against US warships (highly unlikely; a blockade is an act of war), we would have a major problem. Bit even refusing the use of existing US bases in Europe to support it would present serious problems.

And it would seem necessary to have the use of one of Iraq's neighbors as a staging area for an invasion: These are: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, Turkey, Syria, and Jordan. Of these, only Turkey and maybe Kuwait seem at all likely. I believe the Kuwaitis already refused. Turkey has internal reasons for not wanting this role.

The other big danger is united opposition and military action by the Arabs. (Who knows? Could happen.) We could probably erase Israel from out maps if that happened; they would be a very early target. And our forces would be next.
