Even worse: what if neither of you balances your checkbook?

(Aren't banks good at stuff like check deposits and withdrawals? Don't tell me they're not!)

What I do is have a $5000. cd at the local bank, which gives me a $5000. overdraft privilege. So I don't sweat the details, and have only overdrawn once, I think. I keep track sort of impressionistically. Of course the interest rate on that $5000. cd is almost they-charge-me. But I don't have to pay for checks, at least.
