I think it's the second because I sense a bitter undertone. You can tell us about it if it'll help. <g>

Men do that too, of course; in their own way.

Women usually do it for some economic or social advantage; men usually do it to get sex from a woman they have no other interest in (but pretend they do), is my impression.

I thought of this because I have an unmarried girlfriend whose bio-clock is ticking madly and she keeps seeing chunks of her limited fertile period disappear as guys who have no intention of marrying pretend it's their fondest wish, until they've had a couple of months in her bed and decide to move on.

This woman is not free of responsibility for how things are working out for her, of course. (In case anyone thought I was naive enough to think so.) But it's terribly sad.
