Illyria! Ah, yes.

THE KINGDOM OF ILLYRIA
(1225-167 B.C.)
geocities.com

"Scutara was its capital, just as she is now the capital of Northern and Central Albania."

Scutara has been particularly hit by the lack of tourist dollars.

Some little known facts:

At one time there was a civil war, the rebellion of the uneducated masses against the elite Illyrians. In brief, the masses lost their asses and had to cross the nearby border in exile on foot. They were forced to adopt the ethnic name Illyteriats and were disbursed across the rest of the world.

"The last king of Illyria was Gentius, of pathetic memory. In 165 B. C. he was defeated by the Romans and brought to Rome as a captive in order to adorn the triumph of the victor." Thus ended over a millennium of history. Two words survive to this day to commemorate Gentius: 1) Gentile, and 2) Gensing - if only he had been able to remember to take it.
