Tell me: In the last NY Senatorial race, would it have been OK just to ignore the "2nd Tuesday in November" provision of the law and say that the election would be delayed until Giuliani had undergone treatment and recovered? Would you have objected to that? That way the Republicans would not have had to engage in a last-minute scramble to get a candidate who had little chance. And probably would have won, because it looked like Giuliani was going to mop the floor with Ms Clinton.

At what point is the law the law? Torricelli is still alive. He's not even sick. He was just going to lose. So?

And even if the Repubs did press his ethical lapses to get him into this position, so what? They could not make him resign from the race. His own party did that. And the Republicans did not commit those lapses. He did. Your acts have consequences. It's a good thing to keep in mind.

You know, you've done a really good job of re-convincing me that the outcome of the 2000 Presidential election was correct.
