M. Bush devra enfin tenir compte d'inquiétudes qui ne sont pas uniquement le fait de ses partenaires européens ou arabes. L'opinion américaine, si elle est prête à faire la guerre au terrorisme, reste réticente face à une guerre qui n'aurait pas obtenu le soutien des alliés et de l'ONU. Et elle préférerait que la Maison Blanche se préoccupât un peu plus de la crise économique et boursière en cours.

Mr. Bush will finally have to take account of the worries which do not uniquely belong to his European or Arab allies. American opinion, if it is ready to make war on terrorism, remains reticent in the face of a war that has not obtained the support of the allies or the UN. And it would prefer that the White House preoccupy itself a little more with the economic crisis and the stock market.
