"I thought you were talking about the working poor"

I was. To the degree to which they are not interchangeable (linguistically) with the "very" poor, I plead careless. But really...the working poor ARE very poor. And it really is a shame that their labour is almost entirely being given to the public advancement...mostly to a few powerful and controlling interests. This is just a fact. It has been a fact for as long as people have traded forgiveness and life...for 3 months digging rocks.

"A lot of people born in lower or lower middle classes move up out of them"

What is the percentage if you don't mind my asking?

"If it really was voluntary then I would agree but taxes are not voluntary contributions"

Do you speak for everybody or only for yourself? I thought that the people created the laws with intention to obey them voluntarily. Do you consider democracy to be equivalent to totalitarianism? Is that why you consider that people who pay their income tax are not doing it voluntarily but the money is being "seized"??

"More generally I would say a tax system where everyone (except maybe the poor particularly the very poor) pay about the same %)."

People can only pay what they can afford to pay. So your scheme reduces itself to an arbitrary figure where people pay a diferent percentage (if you go to the lowest common denominator there will of course be no taxes collectible...). On what basis do you wish to determine taxation? Is poverty inmportant? Or if it is...then is wealth important, as well?
