Lindy, I've avoided traveling to the USA because I think the aggro isn't worth it. Sure, you don't care. Nobody ever cares until the tide has gone quietly out and left them high and dry.

Saddam's stepson from NZ was arrested, held for days, and deported at cost to him and his employer. He didn't get the right visa or some bureaucratic detail. The Florida flight training school missed out on the money [he was going to use a simulator - which isn't much good for crop-dusting, so no, he wasn't going to nuke Washington].

If I was associated with any of those middle east countries [even if my grandmother was from there and I was third generation Kiwi] I'd be circumspect about visiting the USA. Of course that might be a good thing from the USA point of view as it saves having to keep an eye on potential terrorists. But it has a cost. People will spend their money and time elsewhere.

It is wryly amusing that there's a travel advisory warning against travel to the USA. I'd call that sensible, not PC.

I've got travel advisories out on many countries at present [the number has increased dramatically over the decades from when an overland trip back to NZ from London would have been fun but taken a long time back in 1975 - now I doubt we'd make it past Turkey though I suppose Bulgaria and Romania would be less hassle than last time].
