If I was associated with any of those middle east countries [even if my grandmother was from there and I was third generation Kiwi] I'd be circumspect about visiting the USA. Of course that might be a good thing from the USA point of view as it saves having to keep an eye on potential terrorists. But it has a cost. People will spend their money and time elsewhere.

I'm sorry Maurice, I have to disagree.. They come here for a reason.. And after 9/11, it doesn't matter WHERE they go, Saudis are going to be given particular scrutiny by virtue of what we know about their society.

Personally, and I think I've broached this before, I think US travel visas should mimic those of the nation from which people are originating.

For example, any Saudi traveling here should be required to have a sponsor. They can only travel here in a group, and not by themselves. They should be required to surrender their passport upon entry into the US. They should also be required to seek approval whenever they decide to travel elsewhere in the US than their original destination. They should also be required to process out of the US, obtaining a "vetting" to ensure they violated no laws during their stay.. And finally, they should pay an exit tax..

It's only fair.. After all, that how they treat Americans traveling in their country..

It seems they don't care about all the money they can lose by not permitting tourists into their country... Why should we care??

Screw 'em...

Besides, it's the quickest way to shake them up and make them reform.. They've been getting a free ride for far too long.
