Lazarus, I don't live in the USA [the lack of freedom would suffocate me]. <You like it? Move to Iran (your friends the Saudis probably won't even give you a visa). Nobody is forcing you to stay in the US.>

You are also confused about Saudis being my friends. Neither would I want to move to Iran, but I suspect that in many ways, life in the village there might be more pleasant than life in Los Angeles, where bars on the houses keep criminals out.

They'd have to all learn English for me to move there - it's amazing how many foreigners still don't know English. Even when I shout they don't understand.

To belabour the point, I wrote "There's something to be said for the Taleban and Islam and modesty and so on". That doesn't mean all aspects are desirable. Just as I consider there are very many good and desirable things about the USA but that doesn't mean I'd want to live there or that all things are good.

The USA could adopt many attributes of Islam into their culture and be better off for it. Depending of course on just what brand of Islan and which attributes. I'd like to see some cultural changes in NZ too.

Modesty is not all bad you know. Humility isn't a human defect either. No theft is good too.

Hooray for liberalism,
Mqurice
