My impression is that the Methodists don't necessarily take it all that seriously, and are much more relaxed, whereas the Baptists are pretty gung-ho.

I was raised Methodist as well, and I think your description fits my experience, at least.

Being a Methodist was just a good excuse to get together and have potluck dinners and fish suppers, was the going joke. Everytime the congregation got together there was lots of food involved. More of a "social club with the Lord's Prayer" than anything.
