Karen,
You cannot say "My concern is not for illegals in this country. It's for the hardworking Americans who, especially in CA, have a hard time paying utilities because Cheney and Lay colluded to charge Californians for phantom power at inflated prices." without any proof for that statement what so ever. You condemn those of us on the right who make statements about Saddam for which there is proof, but you do not believe it, yet you go off like that on Cheney without any proof, just inuendo.
From a particular point of view, right now i am unemployed, and perhaps I am one of those who qualify for Food Stamps. Don't know if I do, but I won't even bother to find out. I've got way too much pride to take that kind of assistance, but I am glad we offer it to those who need it.
Now I don't mean to be mean either, but do you want to use Special Forces to chase now these poor souls and force them onto government programs.
Where did I say we ought to put them out of their misery? I'm just saying it is often (although not always) their own fault and society can only do so much. As far as charity, to me Earthquake victims deserve charity, drug addicts vastly less so. You may feel differently, that's OK? Someone's got to worry about those with 'lost potential' and others have to worry about the victims of natural disasters. I'd rather be in the later category!
