It does not help either that there is now a new technology called DWDM that has rendered obsolete most of these investments that were done with SONET technology. Well, that doesn't sound like a bad situation to me... After all, it means that all news switches will be required to managed the additional wavelengths. Obsolescence of prior technology is seldom a "bad thing".. What's bad is when consumers are content with that technology and unwilling to spend to increase bandwidth, or incorporate new technology.
