Why the change? Maybe the two parties aren't really that far apart anymore. This morning I heard the new Republican Maryland governor's victory speech on the radio, saying what he wanted to see happen in Maryland - first thing out of his mouth was clean up the Bay. He also mentioned improving education and health care for seniors and the indigent. These are not divisive issues -- cleaning up the Bay is as non-partisan as mom and apple pie. Even Gephart was talking about more tax cuts. Post 9/11, post the Big Bubble and the Tech Wreck, post the realization that we became an empire while we weren't looking, has us all scratching our heads and wondering what's next.
