Favourite movies -

CB - Thanks for taking up the idea. And this certainly is a far better place to discuss favourite movies than FADG :)

Here is a list by myself, by no means exhaustive and in no particular order:

Until the End of the World - Wim Wenders
Great road movie covering many cities and quite a few subjects, such as obsession with dreams towards the end.

eXistenZ - David Cronenberg
Idea: What if the masses get engrossed with the idea of game playing where you can no longer differentiate between the game and real life?

Dead Ringers - David Cronenberg
Two identical twin brothers (played by Jeremy Irons) who are gynecologists fall for the same woman. Spectacular descent into madness follows.

Strange Days - Kathryn Bigelow
The only female action movie director's take on a near future when we will be able to record, replay, and even sell our memories. Murder, intrigue, and the story of a broken heart (Ralph Fiennes) still in love with the former girlfriend (who was that girl in "Natural Born Killers"). Quite interesting. Goes into discussions of how memory is made to fade, and that's how we can live with past pains.

Dark City - Alex Proyas
Another original idea. I am not going to ruin the surprise for those of you who have not seen it, but just let me say that it is very interesting and artistically is it very well done.

Requiem for a Dream - Darren Aronofsky
Young and beautiful people who go into recreational drugs, have great fun in the first half of the film, and then lose all and end up in horrifying conditions in the end. Sounds unimportant when summarized like this, but I doubt if you have seen anything like this film lately.

PI - Darren Aronofsky
Black and white, this movie revolves around a mathematician with a horrible headache (important part of the story!)searching for an order in the stock market with his computer system. He is approached by Kabbalah people who ask him to look for the name of God in the Torah, which is a number set because letters also represent numbers in Hebrew. Discussions on Fibonacci numbers, free will, Go (the game), etc are part of this film. Quite interesting.

Baraka
This is a documentary. Difficult to explain - you will be looking into the sad eyes of a grey monkey in a lake one moment, and then at the patterns of New York traffic rush hour the next. Beautiful music.

Before the Rain
This is a film made by a Macedonian director, talking about the wars that wrecked this area. The story has three parts and the third ties into the first so there is the illusion of a circle. The soundtrack is brilliant.

.... and the films you all know, so not much to say there:
American Beauty
True Romance
