Hi kumar_rangan; Those people who buy the diet cokes probably can't tell the difference in taste between those and the sugared varieties. Since they can detect no difference, why not choose the "diet"? It allows them to eat more french fries, which they can taste.

If McDonalds started offering fat free french fries and no calorie sundaes, they'd probably buy those too, if there was no taste difference. (Or the taste was acceptable.)
