IMHO, Big Iron has a role that Unix can not meet. IBM is still a profitable company.

Well, its UNIX on those Big Irons, for the most part. IBM's AIX or a specialized OS like OS390.

Ironically, its IBM that's pushing Linux in a big way. I think IBM sees Linux as a UNIX market unifier and a good way to give Microsoft a return shaft. "Thanks for the memories, Bill. One good turn deserves another, eh?"
