It is a "Give them an inch and they will take a mile" attitude on the part of people like me. The Evangelicals think we should all join them, and believe that "This is a Christian Nation!" They want the kids praying in schools, and everywhere else they can influence things.

But there really has to be some sense injected into that debate, on both sides. "Prayer time" in public schools is one thing, hanging the Ten Commandments in a court room is another. Demanding Creationism be taught as a scientific alternative to Evolution is one thing, the ACLU suing a school for hanging a banner reading "God bless America" is quite another. Proselytizing is verboten, but that doesn't mean government must be totally devoid of recognizing religious sentiments.
