Back from a party and time for bed.

A friend of mine is a Mason and Shriner. I always go to his parties but I always give him a hard time about not letting women be Masons or Shriners.

It always ticks me off because the Catholic Church, which won't let me be a Mason or Shriner either, won't let me be a priest or even an altar girl.

Yet another case of damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't.

In my home town of Baton Rouge, the Monsignor stood up to the Bishop and will let young women be altar girls. Yaaay.

But not where I live now (Fairfax).

My friend has a daughter aged seven who is as smart and capable as any person I've ever met in my entire life.

I told him tonight that he'd better let her become a Mason or suffer the consequences.

He told me that there is precedent for letting a woman be a Mason, based on Lady somebody-or-other, who hid behind a sofa and heard the entire ritual, so the choices were to become a Mason or death.

I don't really care whether I become a Mason or not, but the entire attitude ticks me off.

A young (22 year old) man shared a couple of cigarettes with me this evening and promised me that his family gave enough money ($20 million - he said) to the Catholic church and the Masons that I could become a Mason, but after sharing cigarettes he disappeared, so I think he was probably full of it. Still, it was nice to have a cigarette again. Happens only once or twice a year.
