I knew a man who literally believed that the Devil planted fossils on earth to tempt man into sin. The weird thing was that he was the top petroleum geologist for a big oil company.

Petroleum geologists spend their lives looking at the geological record, in particular looking for certain fossils which tell them where oil is likely to be.

I never actually discussed this with him, he was the father of a guy I knew in high school, but in the back of my mind I think maybe he wrote articles on the topic or gave lectures.

I have always thought this was really weird.
