"Whats wrong with these people?"
"461 women murdered...
with at least as many raped as killed"
Wow!!!
It is awful that it could even happen one time. However, is it just me or does any one else get the feeling that this feels a little like propoganda. Clearly Pakistan is a mess and I would not recommend any westerner (other than a crazy reporter) going there for any reason. It appears like a large portion of the population (mostly religious) would like to overthrow our allie, the military dictator, in favor of a democracy, civil war seems close. At the same time it does seem like there are people itching for another US vs Afghanistan/Pakistan war. Religion (the wrong one)combined with crimes against women seem to be a calling card of some sort to rally behind.
I looked up some comparative data on a western country for the year 2000. Here is what I found.
Episodes of violence or attempted violence against women victims: 2,710,340
Completed episodes of violence against women victims: 1,017,890.
Episodes of rape and sexual assault against women victims: 246,180

The statistics didn't report whether or not these episodes were religiously motivated. Not sure why that was left out...You got any ideas? |
