Mister answer man says no.

I knew you'd know! And I'll think of Mr. Answer man every time I turn the heat on as soon as I get into the car instead of waiting to see if it's hot yet. The part about turning on the heat to cool of the engine on Pike's Peak? How strange. Is the heater core part of the car that gets hot anyway, that is just generated by the combustion engine, and the heater just uses that heat? Or is it a part of the engine that gets hot for the purpose of heating up the car? I can see that the Pike's Peak trick might make sense if the first is the case.

Yes -- it was ether! We didn't use it a lot, just when the car wouldn't start w/o it. Had no idea it was hard on the engine, though.
