Greg - Are you not able to understand what you read?

eternal

\E*ter"nal\, a. [F. ['e]ternel, L. aeternalis, fr. aeternus. See Etern.]

1. Without beginning or end of existence; always existing.

2. Without end of existence or duration; everlasting; endless; immortal.

3. Continued without intermission; perpetual; ceaseless; constant.

4. Existing at all times without change; immutable.

5. Exceedingly great or bad; -- used as a strong intensive. ``Some eternal villain.''

Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc.

As you can see, definition number (2) does not say anything about any beginning, while all definitions refer to having no end - i.e. "eternal" has to do with the end, and not necessarily with the beginning. We may talk about something being "eternal" even if it comes into existence today, as long as it will continue to exist forever.
