Thanks for participating in our poll. I am glad you think that is an appropriate question for the SAT. So did everybody else who responded so far.

Unfortunately, the Educational Testing Service, which writes and administers the SAT, didn't think so. They removed the question from the test, solely because a disproportionate percentage of women and African American students missed it.

For those of you more into words, here is a verbal analogy to chew on:

2. Guzzle : beverage:

A) dine : dinner
B) gorge : glutton
C) taste : flavor
D) nibble : snack
E) wolf : food

This one was also eliminated from the SAT, because a disproportionate number of Hispanics missed it.

I think somebody needs to step back and ask themselves what the point of testing somebody is if you aren't allowed to test math by asking about basic arithmetic.
