I'm going to need to study them further as there is much to digest here.

I was struck by the story of John Jasper, the white man who preached in Black English. Strange and moving.

I was heartened to see this: As we have already seen, slavery in the Antebellum South was far more diverse and complex than most people believe.

I've been beating that horse for some time now, encompassing too the attitudes of the people of both the North and the Confederacy.
