About 1960 or 1961 (the Centennial of the start of the Civil War) a piece was published in a national magazine (Parade?) with the title "If The South Had Won The Civil War". The author was a well-known civil war authority of the time (Fletcher Pratt?). He postulated that eventually slavery did die out in the South and was then made illegal. At the time of the article the North and South were holding re-unification talks.
