I think your right John, The idea of RACE spending $200K on a conference display is to much too bear. Why provide a hangout for Ean to talk golf and Ed pick his nose.
Val, I am assuming that you are agreeing with that part of my post wherein I made reference to Ean and Ed hawking Be There! from their car trunks. I have previously stated that after having spent nearly 30 years in corporate America I have been programmed to misunderstand and, in this case, to be misunderstood. I will make an attempt to explain but I cannot gurantee that you will understand.
First and foremost, we are not in agreement. I do not recall posting anything about RACE spending any amount of money for a conference display. I did, however, email Dr. Barker to let him know that I thought the Race PC Expo exhibit was a waste of stockholder money. Why? Because, at that time, I was thinking like a corporate employee. I am about to exaggerate here, so please bear with me. I thought they should have had a display much like a flashy Auto Show exhibit with blinking disco lights and women wearing thongs. Sex sells.
Val, I changed my mind. Race was at the Lucent booth. Lucent had one of the best locations on the floor. For selfish reasons, I wish they were going to the San Francisco show. I would like to see Jem and the rest of the California crowd. I live in Georgia but I would have made the trip. I agree with Greg. They cannot possibly afford to waste the time to be at every show.
I am guessing that you may have misinterpreted the point that I was attempting to make regarding selling Be There! from car trunks. I happen to agree with Dr. Barker. I cannot think of a better way for a 140+ employee company to penetrate a potentially huge market without benefit of distributors and partnership arrangements. In other words, I do not believe direct selling will get the job done. That is what I was referencing. To think that Ean, Ed, et al could possibly cover the globe is absurd.
People may not do it openly but everyone picks their nose. I highly recommend golf. That is where today's deals get cut. It used to be over cocktails and dinner. Times change and so did my mind.
PS: Take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning. :o) |
