What is your estimate of the difference between proven reserves and actual world supply
a bit of a nomenclature issue here, but do you understand the difference between reserves and supply? reserves are what is in the ground, or is+was in the ground, or is+was+will-hopefully-be-discovered in the ground, depending on who you talk to.
supply, on the other hand, is what you can get out of the ground, on what is essentially a hand-to-mouth basis--that is, what you can make available for use per day or year.
thus asking what is the difference between proven reserves and actual supply is like asking what is the amount i will earn over my lifetime versus the amount of my next paycheck.
in other words, this is not the question to ask.
there are a lot of other subtleties i won't bother going into now as it will create a very long post and take a very long time. i think you should do some more background reading on this subject, regardless of what kind of stand you take. i'm serious: you've indicated that, for an American, you are a very conscientious consumer of fossil fuels. we'd be a lot better off if everybody were that way, but unfortunately that's not the case. i think you owe it to yourself to understand what's going on.
