Goldman Sachs This Week in Semis ('GS TWIS') Notes (V1 N19)- 1. May Data Better Than Seasonal, ASPs Solid - Global Semi industry May revs were $11.95bn, up 7.4% from April, versus an 18-yr average of up 2.3%. Revenues were up 6.6% on a Q/Q basis (18-yr avg up 3.5%) and up 11.3% Y/Y (18-yr avg up 12%). Ours, and consensus sequential (Q on Q) revenue expectations for the companies we follow for the June quarter is for growth of 3%. In order to see 3% growth, global sales in the month of June would have to grow by 20.9%, which is above the 18-yr average of 15.9%, but reachable given that June seq growth averaged 26.4% in the past 3 yrs. Units and ASPs were also encouraging, a sign the profit cycle is getting in gear 2. Sept Guidance Likely Soft - SIA data shows most companies have not built backlog in Q2, as they did in Q1, making upcoming earnings reports less of a positive catalyst. XLNX, TXN and AMD may have the most risk of mild downward revisions to Q3 seq growth rates.
