However, Butler contacted The New York Times, which ran a story about the book proposal, on Friday morning, saying he had found another transcript of the interview, with different wording. That one has Schwarzenegger saying: “I admire him [Hitler] for being such a good public speaker and for his way of getting to the people and so on. But I didn’t admire him for what he did with it. It’s very hard to say who I admire, who are my heroes.” ............................................................................................................................................................ Thursday night, Schwarzenegger responded by saying, “I despise everything the Nazis or Hitler stood for.” Asked whether it was possible that he had ever made the statements, he said: “I can’t imagine, because from the time I was a kid on, I always disliked everything that his regime stood for. I think Hitler was a disgusting villain.” Schwarzenegger grew up in Austria, where his father was a member of the Nazi Party. He has faced charges of Nazi sympathies before, but he has worked hard to rebut them and has donated to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, an international Jewish human rights organization. .......................................................................................................................................................... The newspaper said that none of Schwarzenegger’s political opponents put reporters in touch with the women and that none had come forward on their own. None have brought legal action against Schwarzenegger, the newspaper said.
............................................................................................................................................................... Both sets of allegations emerged only after two new polls had been completed showing Schwarzenegger with a big lead over all other candidates.

A Field Poll released Friday found that likely voters were planning to vote “yes” to recall Davis by 57 percent to 39 percent. The poll also showed that Schwarzenegger was favored over Bustamante by 36 percent to 26 percent. The poll also showed the effort to oust Davis succeeding, 56 percent to 42 percent. That marked a shift from a Sept. 12 Times poll that had support for the recall stalling, with 50 percent of voters supporting it and 47 percent opposed.
