DAVIS CONCEDES! Arnold wins! WHOOPEE!!!!!! ============================================================= The ineptness and venality of the "Pay-To-Play" governor has finally surfaced. Red ink as far as the eye can see. His handling of the CA energy crisis totally drained the state's rather large reserves, which were intended to handle just such drops in state revenue. His stupidity or corruptness in handling the CA energy crisis put us into the current budget mess. For which we will now pay for with his planned tax increases, budget cuts, and shifting of costs to more local levels- -which mean cuts or tax increases there. Of course, the tax increase will never go away. Had he let energy prices float, they'd be back to normal by now. Keeping the state out of the energy mess would have resulted in higher rates for a while, yes. But it would also have resulted in what he jawboned about in TV commercials- -conservation. REAL conservation. And people and businesses, getting hit by the increased cost, would have SCREAMED at Washington, instead of meekly sitting back because the state was "protecting" them. More on the "Pay-To-Play" Guv: egray.org I appreciate this act in the public interest on his part: On February 16, 2000, the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board, dominated by appointees of former Governor Wilson voted to uphold a tough limit on dioxin pollution at Tosco's Avon Refinery near Martinez. On the very next day, Tosco donated $55,500 to Gray Davis. Davis appointed a new member to the board and just a few months later, the board overturned its February decision, voting to allow Tosco to increase its release of lethal, cancer-causing dioxin by 400% Davis has received substantial contributions from credit card companies including Citigroup, (its subsidiaries and executives donated $125,000 to Davis) and Providian Bancorp Services ($104,000 to Davis). Davis vetoed pro-consumer legislation opposed by the credit card companies that would have required credit card companies to disclose how long it would take customers to pay off their debt if they make only minimum payments. In his veto message, Davis, using language similar to the banking industry's letter opposing the bill, said he would sign legislation if it were more narrowly drawn. But there's lots more interesting info on our dear guv in there. It's a good read. And while were at it, we'd better impeach the loot governor, Cruz Bustamante. Because he will be even worse. | ||||||||||||
