FWIW, in an attempt to draw a parallel between the 70's and the current decade (and making use of the presidential cycle), the following is a summary of DOW and gold events in the 70's and the corresponding dates 32 years later. It adds more detail to an earlier post of mine.

Mid 1972.....Mid 2004.....Gold peak @ $65 followed by 6 months sideways
Early 1973...Early 2005...DOW peak, gold begins rise
Mid 1973.....Mid 2005.....Gold peak @ $125.
End 1973.....End 2005.....Gold low @ $90.
End 1974.....End 2006.....Gold peak @ $190, DOW bottom.
Early 1976...Early 2008...DOW peak
Fall 1976.....Fall 2008.....Gold low @ $110
Fall 1977.....Fall 2009.....DOW bottom
Early 1980...Early 2012...Gold peak @ $850.
