OK, I changed out the keyboard and went poking around the BIOS. CPU setup menu read as follows:
CPU operating speed 500
Multiplier factor x5
CPU FSB/PCI clock 100/33mhz
CPU FSB plus 0

Now bus freq. per Abit should be 133 so I tried setting the clock to 133/33. It detected the change, making me hit F1 to continue. But apparently CPU still ran at 750mhz. So I put it back like it was.
There appears to be some glitch in the motherboard. Some of the stuff I referred to earlier Message 19672573
seems to be getting worse. It sometimes took several attempts to get the machine to POST, starting with unplugging the power supply and letting it stay off a while. Otherwise, when I hit the reset or power button, the fans spin, the lights flash, it sounds like the hard drive is spooling up, and then nothing happens.
