Count me in with those who think the south should have had the right to secede.

Of course the issue that triggered it was slavery ... but slavery was doomed anyway, and very few of the people who fought the war owned, or would ever own, slaves.

I believe the real issue is whether the people of the south should have been allowed to chose their own destiny, or have it chosen for them at the point of a bayonet.
