I guess we'll get to the crux of the problem I have with Neo-Confederates. If you listen to the speeches given by Mr. Denson, he leads the listener to believe that the reason for Southern secession was because of high tariffs and indeed, tariffs were unfair toward the South, but never does he mention that the primary cause for secession was slavery. This leads the listener to believe that the noble Southerners were innocent victims fighting for a just cause - States rights. It was not. It was to continue the institution of Slavery.
Libertarians have jumped on the Neo-Confederate bandwagon because of, I suppose, their dislike of a centralized government, but I think they're making a mistake glorifying the "Old South" as something to emulate. Lew Rockwell, who, I'm sure is a hero of yours, made the statement below in "Protectionism, War, and the Southern Tradition."
"If we are to restore liberty, limited and local government, free enterprise, and, yes, free trade, we must begin by understanding the power that a legitimate regionalism and an old-fashioned devotion to independence will have in uniting us against the forces of central control. In doing so, we will stand with the author of the Declaration of Independence, with the republicans of the Old South, and with the signers of the Confederate Constitution."
